We all love to dunk on reactionaries, but there is no final right way to interpret media.

According to “death of the author” literary theory, any reading that can be backed up with the text is valid. These valid theories may contradict each other and even the author of the work. (please don’t confuse multiple valid readings with silly relativism that any reading is as good as any other, that’s a straw-person argument).

Death of the author is valuable and useful. This is how many classic media have been reinterpreted to take on queer readings for example.

There is a long history of these shenanigans in film. During the filming of “last tango in paris”, the male lead and the director conspired to sodomize the female lead as a “surprise” to get a more genuine “performance”. Roman Polanski drugged and rapped a teenager. The great auteur Kubrick, is famous for harassing and abusing the Shelly Duvall, again, for the sake of her “performance”.

Statistically, for every Weinstein who see’s the inside of a prison for abusing women, ten Woody Alans walk around free. Rape as a sex crime is barely illegal in the US. Rape as a property crime is punished to the full extent…

It’s crazy that this duo went mainstream spitting such revolutionary lyrics. I mean you’ll still see some rappers take the revolutionary ascetic (looking at you Killer Mike), but Dead Prez are like a glitch in the system.

It’s weird that Linux certification requires rote-memorization of commands. The only people who make any effort to memorize commands are newbies and people studding for exams. You will always have access to bash history, man, and --help, even from an offline machine.
