To be fair I thought exactly as you did until I happened to see that trailer

From the trailer I saw it actually seems to integrate that in the movie, they die repeatedly and come back to life and are aware that they have to survive Until Dawn™ (roll credits) by making the right choices

I don’t know if it’s just the same few people that bring up Better Off Ted around here, but I love that it comes up as often as it does in these sorts of threads
