It it good guys? I have my reservations about NetFlix addaptations, the english dub sounds a bit meh
I enjoyed it for what it was. Continues the Igloo trend of using uncanny valley CG (FFS the humans look like they spent 5 minutes in Blender on the animation, mechs and environment are amazing though) to tell OYW stuff from the Zeon side. They did a fantastic job depicting the Gundam as a terrifying menace. Unlike Igloo, there’s no way really to make this jibe with existing UC canon, so it sits in with other alt-UC stuff like Thunderbolt and Origin.
If nothing else, it’s only 6 episodes. Can’t hurt to give it a whirl.

Exactly that is why i wanted to watch it, I know Thunderbolt is a very high standard to measure others shows against. But i will give it a try :)
Story is alright. Human renderings are kinda jank. Worth the watch imo.
It’s okay. The animation is mixed, scenery and mecha are amazing, facial animation is awful. The story has a good premise in making the traditional bad guys the protagonists and the Gundam the antagonist, but the actual story is mid at best.
Pretty much. Writing is mediocre but not awful, mobile suits (and all the machinery, really) are A+, human animations are awful.
We’re all just here for the mechs anyway. It’s the same thing as a Godzilla flick (barring -1 and Shin). We’re not here for the plot - just show us the giant monsters fighting, and we’re happy.
I mean, I like my giant robot fights to have some decent story and characters too, y’know? The grey, gritty, grounded portrayal of war is what makes me a gundam fan over other mecha series.
But yeah, in this case, the gorgeous mecha animation at the very least balances out the basic writing.
You are 100% right. I’ve even said before on here that a GOOD Godzilla movie lives and dies by the human plot. I’m not saying the story doesn’t matter, but in the grand scheme of things if the plot is lacking, the monster/mech scenes are really what matters here. Good writing and plots only elevate it that much more.
Literally this. TOHO, who makes Godzilla, assisted production. From the way fights are portrayed to general feel, RfV is Godzilla Gundam and I am here for it.
I felt like they portrayed the terror of the Gundam so well in the series, showing us a side we haven’t really had a chance to see before. They nailed that so well IMO, TOHO really put their magic into it and it shows.
I enjoyed it. It has a heavier focus on the war aspect of Gundam - relative to the political aspect - so it is not like your typical Gundam IMO.
I have heard from Gundam fans that the story / protagonist is no good given the context of the Universal Century timeline.
However, I watched it without much knowledge of the bigger universe, so the criticisms mean nothing to me.
P.S. I watched the subbed version
I’m not sure what they’re on about that the story and protagonist are “no good”?
Like, I’ll admit the writing is pretty basic and blunt. Characters are shallow and nobody really has time to develop. But apart from like, one moment, nothing really made me upset? I’d still give it a mid/10.
I watched it and tbh I thought it was kinda bad. The ending was kinda dumb. That episode where they said
Requiem for Vengeance
“Instead of taking the Zaku apart, what if we put them together?”
was also extremely dumb. The writing sometimes had the sort of subtlety that makes you wonder if they’re actually aiming this show at small children. I’m impressed by how it didn’t look like ass most of the time though; the mechs actually looked pretty good! It’s certainly a step up from the animation quality of IGLOO.
There’s another huge issue I’ve realized in retrospect. If none of the characters are named anything like “Full Frontal” or “Bring Stabity” is it really Gundam?
Requiem for Vengeance ending
Anyways, her kid is gonna be pissed off if she survives and her only answer for why it took so long for her to get home is “well I could’ve returned earlier but for vague reasons didn’t really feel like it”
edit: Lemmy desperately needs in-line spoilers.
Don’t do it. It’s as bad as your instincts are telling you.
