Sure but if the same 2 actors are leading again, with the same characters, they’re not moving forward much at all. They’re just hoping to capitalize on the success of season 1. Hell, the comments they themselves make about writing season 2 already inspire no confidence.
"Series creators Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, who recently wrapped a writers’ room, have spoken about the challenges of conceiving a second season without a blueprint as none of the other novels in Clavell’s Asian Saga have the same characters as Shōgun, the third book in the series. But the duo has revealed in interviews that they still leaned on the Shōgun novel, incorporating elements and characters that they didn’t use in Season 1. "
I just don’t see any real story they can make with these two at this point. Not one that won’t feel shoe-horned, anyway.
Sounds like they should have picked another novel to work from… it’s always amazing when people think they can somehow create something incredible from nothing. Almost every adaptation that has been worth it has come from source material, and we have plenty of examples of what happens when they either run out of that or try to deviate from it. Now I am sure there’s a few that have succeeded, but I am drawing a blank on what, and it’s also very rare.
